Hark Daily turns the news you choose into a short spoken briefing. It collects as little as it can to do that. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
What's stored with your account
You don't need an account to use the Android app. If you sign in (on the web, or in the app to sync), we store:
- Your sign-in: your email address, and your name and profile picture if you use Google.
- Your settings: the name you're greeted by, your weather city and its coordinates, voice, speed and how many stories you want.
- Your news links: the sites, feeds and articles you add.
- On the web only: your briefings (the text and audio), and a notification address for each browser where you turn on morning notifications.
This is kept in Supabase, and each account can only read its own data.
What stays on your phone
The Android app builds your briefing on the phone. Its briefings, audio, downloaded voices and any AI key you add are kept on the device and never uploaded to us. Uninstalling the app removes them.
Who else sees what
- News sites receive ordinary requests when your briefing fetches their headlines and articles.
- Open-Meteo receives your city's coordinates for the forecast and the place names you search for.
- Groq receives the news articles to summarize on the web. In the app, articles go to the AI service you pick (Groq, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, OpenAI or your own) only if you add your own key. None of them receive your account details.
- Microsoft receives the briefing text when a web briefing uses one of the Microsoft voices (Clara, Liam, Ava, Andrew, Sonia). The Chatterbox-Turbo voices run privately on our own cloud voice service.
- Google handles the sign-in when you choose "Continue with Google".
- GitHub serves the app's natural-voice download.
Reporting a summary
If you report a story's summary in the app, we receive the story (headline, summary, link and source), the reason you picked, any note you write, the app version and, if you're signed in, your account. We use it only to fix summaries, and reports are deleted once they're reviewed or with your account.
How long it's kept
Web briefings are deleted after a few days. Everything else is kept until you change it or delete your account.
Deleting your account
Choose Delete account in Settings, on the web or in the Android app. Your sign-in, settings, links, briefings and audio are permanently removed, usually within a minute. Briefings stored on your phone stay there until you uninstall the app or clear its data.
Children
Hark Daily isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
